Medina collection

There are two basic ideas every surfer should have in mind when choosing a surfboard; the kind of waves he is going to surf and the level of performance he is at. For example, if you are an average surfer but you are about to surf stronger waves, you should upgrade the shape of the board.

By working tightly with shaper Johnny Cabianca and the Pukas Team, Gabriel Medina and our team have developed a quiver that has granted us some titles. But most importantly, we have come up with a quiver that suites everybody, depending on how good of a surfer you are and the waves you are going to shred. It's called the "Medina Collection" and this is it:

Mushsiest surf. Pukas GAME. Gabriel won the San Miguel Pro Zarautz on this model. Check it out.

Average surf. Pukas DFK. Gabriel surfed on this model until mid 201. Click here.

Stonger waves, either small or big. Pukas MEGA. Gabriel won the Junior and 6 Star Lacanau Pro, the WT Quik Pro France and the WT Rip Curl Search Pro San Francisco on this model. All these waves are stronger than average. This is it.

Gabriel medina wins another wt. san francisco.

Gabriel Medina recons not to know what he has done. Understandable. In just two months he has won two WT events, being 17 years old and a rookie!!

Gabriel has beaten Ke11y Slater, T. Knox, Wilco and Parko, just to name a few. Joel Parkinson recognized after his lost that he has never seen anyone more talented than Gabriel. Kelly sais something similar too.

At Pukas, well, we don't know what Gabriel is doing neither. Winning two WT in your rookie year? being 17? surfing THAT good?. You gotta give this kid some credit. What we do know is what he is ridding; a Pukas MEGA model shaped by J. Cabianca on 5'11 x 18 1/2 x 2 1/4. Designed at Pukas HQ in Guipuzcoa, a factory called Olatu that has seen lots of surfers, shapers and people from the industry, but never a kid soo talented.

	Thank you Gabriel.

This video is Igor Bellido's creation. From the title to the sick editing, Igor felt he had to show the world Gabriel Medina's skills, Johnny Cabianca's shaping ability and his own video mastership. And he came up with this clip.

Igor is from the Basque Country, has worked several times in the hawaian Triple Crown and works at the Pukas Stores and Surf Schools in Zarautz and San Sebastian.

It's about them, it's not about us

Javier “Pacotwo” Muñoz and Sergio Villalba are two of the most talented photographers in Europe. Pacotwo is from the Basque Country and Sergio searches not only the depths of the Canary Islands (islands he calls home) but the rest of the World too. Pukas has been delighted to work with them every now and then (wephotoagency.com), and this recognition they had in Surfing Magazine shows not just where they have been, but who they hang out with and what their taste is.

This is what Pete Taras, Surfing's Photo Editor, says about it:

“Every once in a while someone’s photography comes along that is so heartfelt that all you want to do is share it with the rest of the world. Faces of surfers we do not recognize, waves on mars, landscapes of prehistoric earth. Welcome to Javi Muñoz and Sergio Villaba’s vision of surfing.”

Enjoy it, please, is worth it.

Gabriel medina wins wt quik pro france

Note: Pukas Surfboards wins the Moskova Trials, the MSF Expression Sessions and the Main Event of the WT Quik Pro France.

“We came here to win” said Charles, Gabriel Medina’s dad once the contest was over. “But winning it is a whole different thing!!” said in disbelief.

Gabriel Medina has won the WT Quik Pro France 2.011. Being just 17 years old (he will turn 18 on December 22nd), this kid from Brasil (Sao Paulo, Brasil) decided to show all of his repertoire in front of a packed beach with a crowd that ended up cheering for the young wonderkid. Gabriel surfed with his Pukas MEGA surfboard, round pin, shaped by J. Cabianca. Check out the Final Day's recap:

Gabriel’s first victim was Kelly Slater. The 10 time World Champion and reigning World number 1 couldn’t find the rythm and was comboed by the end of the heat with Gabriel surfing his best by the end of the heat nailing a 9.33 in the dying seconds.

Quarters Heat 2
1st. Gabriel Medina 16.66 points
2nd. Kelly Slater 8.60 points (comboed)

Gabriel’s second victim was Taylor Knox, and this time Taylor had to witness the best and most impressive Gabriel we have seen so far. With a variety of manouvers hard to believe, Gabriel scored a 10 in a single move, a 9.57 in another air, and kept catching waves and showed the World that he can do Slobs, no-grabs, double-grabs, inverted airs, huge hacks to lay-backs, to cutbacks, to backside massive turns. Absolutely unbelievable.

Semis Heat 1
1st. Gabriel Medina 19.57
2nd. Taylor Knox 7.00 (comboed)

Gabriel’s third and last victim of the day was an in-form Julian Wilson. The two rookies of 2.011 battled each other with a maturity of veterans and the surf of the new generation. Julian’s varial matched Gabriel’s best airs but it was Gabriel the one getting the score in the dying seconds. He was in need of an 8.27 and judges delivered after the horn; it was a 9.17.

Final
1st. Gabriel Medina 17.00
2nd. Julian Wilson 16.10

Kelly have said that Gabriel will win for sure a couple of Worl Titles. That’s the biggest compliment coming from Kelly.

More on the WT Quik Pro France 2.011

Pukas Surfboards has not only won the WT Main Event. We have claimed the Moskova Trials with a superb Ramzi Boukhiam (who ended up winning to Parko on their Round 2 match-up). He surferd mostly on his Pukas “DFK” model. We won the “best turn” award on the MSF Expression Session with Aritz Aranburu’s massive backside hack in a double overhead wave (he did it on his Pukas “Sexy Fang” model) and Gabriel won it with a huge air too on his magic Pukas board, a model called MEGA that is soon to be released. Natxo Gonzalez had a great run as well on the World KOTG.
Tiago Pires didn’t have his best run in the Quik Pro (he finished equal third a few years ago, compared to his Round 3 loss) but will be looking forward to surf in Portugal next week, where he will feel the warmth of the crowd.

Kotg 2011 natxo gonzalo defeats jack robinson and mikey wright

It is Round 3 of the King Of The Groms 2.011.

Natxo Gonzalez scores a 9.5 at La Graviere (Hossegor, France) and beats two of the most in-form international surfers; australian Jack Robinson and Owen Wright's younger brother Mikey.

Natxo is winning a bunch of stuff, but doing it during the WT Quik Pro France event, in the World KOTG 2.011, scoring such a big score and doing it against Jack and Mikey, well, that speaks louder than words.

Here is a video showing how stocked Natxo feels right after the heat.
